Harmony Haus provides painting services for Residential and Commercial interiors using environmentally friendly paints.  We specialize in painting, faux finishes, custom murals and natural plaster applications.  Many of the materials utilized are Green Seal Certified  products, natural or recycled and all are purchased from local, independent merchants.

The utmost attention is given to using recycled or sustainable materials and great care is taken in reducing the amount of garbage that reaches landfills at the end of each job.

We also want to bring attention to alternative means of business and transportation for such.  Just a few unique and notable facts about Harmony Haus:

  • Mode of transportation to and from job sites is by bicycle with trailer in tow.  So far I can haul up to 300 pounds of  ladders, paints and supplies
  • Member of I-Go Car sharing program for transportation to and from jobs sites that cannot be reached by bike
  • Fully insured
  • Member of Evanston Chamber of Commerce
  • Member of Business Alliance for a Sustainable Evanston
  • Member of Local First Chicago
  • Squeeze Card participating business
  • Most brushes and rollers used are made of natural or recycled materials
  • Drop cloths are either canvas that are reused for each job or blankets of my own and from thrift
  • Painters tape rarely used except for absolute necessity, saving extra waste from going to landfills
  • No plastic tarps are used, again saving more garbage from landfills
  • Non-toxic wallpaper removal techniques are used
  • No-VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and low-VOC paints and primers used
  • Instead of wallpaper application, stencils are recommended

What does it mean to choose No-VOC paints?

(click on the links below to learn more about these terms)

By choosing these types of paints you are contributing to a healthier indoor/outdoor air quality and environment.  The stinky fumes that come from traditional latex and oil paints are the smells of all types of chemicals, none of which are good for you or the atmosphere.  By choosing a No-VOC paint you are not getting any of these harmful additives brought into your home or business:

Rates and Pricing

We welcome a variety of budgets and needs and are willing to work with you to help you create the finished applications you are dreaming of.

If you are thinking you can't afford to hire painters for various projects needed, you can always book a painter for a single day at a price of $350 for a 7.5 hour shift.  Additional hourly charge will apply for longer days as well as unconventional work times, for example overnight, weekend or holiday hours.

Color consulting is available at a rate of $100 per hour to be billed in 15 minute increments with a minimum of 15 minutes.

Typically, estimates are not given over the phone.  Rather, we prefer to visit the site you wish to have work preformed at.

Estimate will include labor and all materials needed with the exception of paints that are to be used.  (Customer pays for paint, either from me or choosing to purchase their own.)  If at any time during the job the nature of the work changes, it will be reflected in the final cost.  Examples include:

  •  customer changing mind and opting for another color, creating a delay in time
  •  damage to walls turns out to require more attention than originally estimated
  • multiple layers of wallpaper found beneath top layer during removal
  • customer does not heed suggestion to use primer when needed and more than 2 coats of paint are required for even, opaque coverage
  • customer cancels a work day causing a delay in projected finish time
  • we are open to include any other circumstances that arise and affect the projected finish time of the job
Of course, if at any time during the job a situation is encountered that would extend the projected finish time or incur additional fees, these will be brought to your attention beforehand, and require your approval to continue.
